Why Mondays?
Start with Monday. Build the habit all week.
I know getting around without a car isn't easy everywhere. A lot of our towns in the US are built around driving, and some trips just aren't safe or realistic any other way yet. That's exactly why every trip you can make differently matters.
Multimodal Mondays is about one small step: one day a week, one trip, or one errand on foot. A bit more fresh air and movement in your day, and a little less reliance on the car over time. Start with Monday, and if you love it, let it spread through your week.
That's why you log every day, driving days included, and every active day earns points. Mondays just earn extra: triple points, plus a Monthly Monday Raffle entry when you share a photo. Every bit of progress is worth celebrating.

As soon as I got an e-bike, I realized how much more I was enjoying my days rather than going through the motions and routine. More fresh air, more activity, and more connection with my kids and the community members around me.Lauren Schubring, founder
How Multimodal Mondays Works
Log every day
Tap how you got around: walk, bike, bus, roll, scoot, carpool, or drive. Driving days count toward your streak too.
Mondays are triple
Active trips earn 3 points on Mondays, plus +1 for sharing a photo.
Build your streak
Streak bonuses, badges, and your community's leaderboard keep it fun.
Redeem rewards
Reward Members turn points into perks from local businesses and brands.
Throughout the year, I'll also run special challenges in the app, where every trip you make differently counts:
Open to Everyone, Anywhere
Multimodal Mondays is for anyone who walks, bikes, rolls, or rides transit, or wants to start. You don't have to live in the right city or work at the right company.
No employer needed
Most commute rewards programs only work if your job or school signed up. This one just needs you.
Any city or town
Online rewards go to every Reward Member, wherever you live. Local rewards show up on your map as shops near you join.
Any trip counts
School drop-off, groceries, the library, work, or a coffee run. If you got somewhere without driving alone, log it.
Driving days count too
Some days the car is the right call. Log it, keep your streak going, and see your own progress over time.
Made to Share
Every Monday photo turns into a graphic for your story, and every month you get your own recap card.
Why Active Transportation?
A walk to school, a bike ride to the coffee shop, or a bus to work is good for more than just you. Small trips like these add up to healthier people, fuller local shops, safer streets, and neighbors who actually know each other.
A healthier you
Movement built into trips you already take.
- Building movement into everyday trips is linked to lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, and it's exercise you don't have to carve out separate time for.
- Time outdoors and in motion is associated with lower stress and better mood.
- Kids who can safely walk or bike gain independence, and the unstructured activity supports their physical and social development.
Money back in your pocket
Every trip without the car skips gas, parking, and wear.
- Owning and running a car is one of the biggest costs most households have. Swapping even a few trips a week adds up.
- Some families find they can go from two cars to one, or one to none, once walking, biking, and transit become normal.
- And as a Reward Member, those same trips earn points toward rewards from local businesses and brands.
Stronger local businesses
People on foot and bike stop and shop locally.
- Foot and bike traffic browses, stops, and spends locally more than drive-through traffic does, and walkable commercial districts tend to outperform car-oriented ones.
- Employees who commute actively arrive less stressed, and cutting car dependence lowers the cost and headache of providing parking.
- Supporting active commuting is a visible, low-cost way to back local sustainability goals.
Closer communities
Safer streets and real independence for everyone.
- Fewer cars moving at lower speeds means fewer and less severe collisions for everyone on the street.
- Streets designed for people, not just cars, create more chances for neighbors to actually see and talk to each other.
- Kids, older adults, and anyone who doesn't or can't drive get real independence when a place is easy to get around without a car.
That's the world I'm hoping Multimodal Mondays helps build, one trip at a time. The rewards get you out the door. The habit is what sticks, and when lots of us do it, our towns change too.
Rewards Worth More Than Your Subscription
Earn
Walk, bike, or ride most days, weekends included, and you'll earn about 40 points a month. Mondays count triple. Just starting out? One active trip every Monday is still about 12 points a month.

About Lauren aka @multimodalmondays
The Multimodal Mondays app grew out of @multimodalmondays, the Instagram account where I share the day-to-day of getting around by bike, bus, and foot — two different things sharing one name.

I never rode my bike to get anywhere until 2021. A few different experiences changed everything for me, and when my daughter was seven months old, I got my first e-bike. Before that I rode the bus somewhat regularly but mostly drove to get from place to place.
I quickly fell more in love with my day to day life as I rode my bike to get around. I was getting more fresh air, experiencing my community in new ways, and my daughter was having so much fun as we had special shared time together instead of more time where she was in the carseat.
I started the @multimodalmondays Instagram account on a whim, wanting to have a place to share all the things I love about active transportation and reclaiming public spaces. The name of course was inspired by the alliteration, but it focuses on starting somewhere to build active transportation habits.
It's unlikely that anyone is going to suddenly start taking the bus or riding their bike for all of their commutes each week without having a starting point.
I built the app so anyone can have that starting point, wherever they live, whether or not their job or town has a program for it. I want getting around without a car to feel normal, fun, and rewarding, and the more of us who do it, the more our streets get built for people walking, biking, and riding.
